Background

I am 58 years old and was born in Geneva-Switzerland. I was admitted in the University of Geneva and received first, the Licence of Biology and then I was admitted to the Medical School of the same University. I graduated with excellence one year before my mates receiving the Swiss Federal Diploma of Medicine from the University of Geneva. After my six-year fellowship in Cardiac and Vascular Surgery, in the University Hospital of Geneva I received the Swiss diploma of cardiac and vascular surgery. The French Government selected me as honorary foreign young surgeon in 1999, and assigned me the position of chief of clinic for two years in the University hospital Louis Pradel, Lyon-France. During this period I have been implemented in the repair of the cardiac valves and the modern surgery of the aorta and the aortic arch. This interest brought me then to Paris-France, in the famous University Pierre and Marie Currie and the Pitié-Salpetrière Hospital under the auspice of Professor A. Pavie and C. Accar. In this hospital, I continued my specialization in mitral valve surgery and I also received the UniversityDiploma in the Cardiac support and assist devices. Then, back in the University hospital of Geneva, I was nominated for the position of Chief of Clinic in the Department of Cardiac and Vascular Surgery where I started being seriously interested in Minimally Cardiac Surgery and Robotic Cardiac Surgery.. Many clerkships in different European countries and particularly in Germany and France offered me a growing experience in this developing field of cardiac surgery. In 2007 I was nominated to the academic degree of Privat Docent-Associate professor of the University of Geneva. I am the author of three theses in different topics in cardiac surgery.

In 2008, I performed the first totally robotic mitral valve repair in Switzerland and then in Athens-Greece. In the same year, as the head of the 3rd Cardiac Surgery Department of the private hospital HYGEIA in Athens-Greece, I started as a pionner, the endoscopic cardiac surgery program in routine surgery, with many publications in the media. In 2011, I performed the first totally robotic cardiac bypass in Switzerland. Since then, the endoscopic cardiac surgery is our routine approach and with my dedicated team, we are regularly invited to perform video-assisted cardiac operations in many countries. Actually I share my working time between Geneva and Athens at the above institutions.
